Synopsis:
THE ASSASSIN (Mortal Beloved, Book Two)
The Assassin is the anticipated sequel to the YA romantic time travel thriller -- The Messenger (Mortal Beloved, Book One).
"I was a Messenger: I kept the memory of all our encounters, our lives, like a locket that brushes the skin and bones covering my heart. But Samuel was a Healer: he didn't time travel. His kind lived, died, re-incarnated, and he didn't retain memories from his past lives. Every year I landed in required starting our relationship over: from ashes, from scrap...
Every place I journeyed had beauty as well as darkness; all my time-travels were bittersweet." Madeline.

Madeline’s a Messenger: time traveling across lifetimes and delivering messages that could change one life or many. When she discovers that her true love, Samuel, is alive in present day, but doesn’t remember her from their past, she journeys to a deadly royal conflict in medieval Portugal hoping to rekindle his memory. Mortal assassins as well as dark-souled time travelers seek to kill her. Will Madeline and Samuel be together again in life—or only in death?
The Messenger (Mortal Beloved, Book One) is optioned for Film/TV.
The Seeker (Mortal Beloved, Book Three) is publishing late 2015
I received this book in an exchange for an honest review
This book was sooooo good. From the title I immediately thought it would be some assassin killing for someone. Not likely, as the story is more than that.
Madeline is a very strong and brave girl who has suffered a lot, she also has a special ability where she is known as a 'messenger' and can travel through time. Her lover, Samuel is a healer who does not have the same ability unfortunately. He also cannot remember any of the past reincarnations whereas Madeline can.
This book is how Madeline's deals with or tries to make Samuel remember the past memories like the way she does, only thing is healers don't remember anything like hunters and messengers can. Aaron and Chaka were good secondary characters from what I read in the book, they already knew the deal with Madeline which made things move much faster.
I didn't like Samuel when he first met Madeline in the past, when she time travels as I didn't understand as to why. And I do feel that even though the author kept this a secret for the sake of the story, I felt like it took too long to be revealed but other than that I imagine him to be drop dead gorgeous.
My favourite thing about this entire book would have to be Pedro and Inzo, their declaration of love for each other, loyalty and most of all romance was truly exceptional. Even though I understand it to be fabricated, I did love the way their love story was depicted within the book and I do love reading about history in that regards too. Ironically, this book managed to add some humor in all the drama too which I was amazed about and did not expect to happen but it made reading the book all more so worth it.
On a further note, I probably should have read the first book to get a better understanding but nevertheless I still enjoyed it.
